My wife casually mentioned it one night while planning our honeymoon last year. “What do you think about Croatia?” she says, with a cute little grin, like I should have already have our flight booked, bags packed, and playlist ready for takeoff. I had to admit I didn't know a single thing about that tiny little country so many miles away...

First stop, Dubrovnik. Yeah, it’s where they filmed Game of Thrones! The food was amazing, and the locals basically treated us like royalty. My wife and I just beat the tourist rush (April), which is the way we like it! Lots to do and no lines to speak of. The only complaint came from Jamie, who needed me to take way less pictures…it was our honeymoon, so NO ARGUING!

After three days of exploring, it was time to hop in our rental (a diesel-powered Mazda) and drive quite literally, through the mountains to a coastal town in Croatia’s wine-country, named Orebic. It’s hard to explain, but it was the most unique place I have ever visited. (And will likely ever experience in my life.) There was this calming feeling, and a true happiness that I’ve yet to feel since. Perhaps when I die and go to heaven, it won’t be heaven, rather the tiny town Orebic. Maybe you’ll find me sitting next to my wife, sipping on a glass of Dingac, and watching the sunset together. I will never forget our time there. It was life-changing.

Our honeymoon was almost at an end, but still lots to do! Our final stop, Split: Croatia’s second largest city, with a quick stop at Plitvice Lakes National Park for some amazing waterfall scenery. The boat tour was really fun too. We could have stayed out on the water for days and still not seen all the tiny islands there. We would finish our 10 days with some shopping at a really cool outdoor market. What a trip…we will definitely be going back!
